The Forestry Commission are planning to carry out some thinning works in September and October to the woods to the south west of Abbots Pool. The two areas in Abbots Leigh are the thin strip of woodland between the top of the bank above the bridlepath and Tanpits Lane and the area between Sandy Lane and Abbots Pool. In addition they will doing work further down the road in East and West Tanpit, the other side of the bottom of Tanpits Lane abutting Sandy Lane.
The local Forestry Commission Beat Officer, Tom Blythe, met representatives of the Parish Council and the Abbots Leigh Wildlife Group to explain the rationale behind the work, which is for both timber and wildlife conservation objectives.
The Parish Council is very grateful to the Forestry Commission for carrying out reinstatement works to sections of Tanpits Lane damaged during previous timber extraction work, so it is now at a higher standard than previously.
