Meet your District Councillor

Carl Francis-Pester holds a monthly “surgery” in the George Inn in Abbots Leigh between 10.30 and 12.00 noon. He welcomes local views so call in and see him.
His next visit is on Saturday 29th December.

Police

Following on from David Davies’ successful cooperation with the police to apprehend the thieves stealing lead from the church roof - keep vigilant and report anything that you see which is suspicious.

Crimestoppers: 0800 555 111
Police (Nailsea): 0845 456 7000
Our Local Police Beat Officer PC Trevor Byford or our Community Support Officer Laura Wheeler can be contacted about local non urgent matters on 01934 638349.

Fly tipping

Regrettably this is a major issue locally. The unfortunate landowner that has been dumped upon becomes responsible for clearing the mess up. The recent case off Weir lane did lead to confusion about the landownership as it was thought to be Forestry Commission Land and when they investigated it was found to be private land. North Somerset in this instance have undertaken to clear the mess.
The culprit who tips the rubbish is responsible and we can help to stop it. If you see anyone illegally tipping on anyone’s land take down as much information as you can and report it to North Somerset Council on 01934 888802 and they will prosecute wherever possible, but they need to be able to produce your evidence in court.
There has been a successful; prosecution relating to tipping on Haberfield Lane????

Introducing your new Parish Councillors:

Gill Coleman

I am a newcomer to Abbots Leigh, having moved here only 18 months ago. I have lived in Bristol for most of my life: we used to bring our children to Abbots Pool when they were young, and have always liked this area. I enjoy outdoor activities, particularly walking, and have recently discovered the joys of gardening. I am married to David, an architect - and consequently our house is in a state of upheaval.

Now that our children have left home (more or less!) I decided that I would like to get involved in some sort of volunteer activity to help connect me to the community I lived in, rather than always rushing in from work and out again. So, when the Parish Council was looking for another member last June, I volunteered.

I have a personal, and professional, interest in sustainability and climate change¬not so much in the science side (I am not a scientist) but in the ways we as a society are going to make the significant changes in our lifestyles that a 'low carbon' future will require. Government has an important part to play in this, but so do communities - and there is an increasing number of interesting initiatives developing in villages and neighbourhoods around the country to try address the climate change challenge. So I would like to use the opportunity offered by my role as a parish councillor to see if we can start considering our response in Abbots Leigh.

As well as my general duties as a councillor, I am responsible for:
  • the Village Hall and Skittle Alley
  • communications, including our inputs in the website and the Link
So please feel free to contact me on any of these subjects: we are your council, and our purpose is to represent your interests and enhance your experience of living in Abbots Leigh.
